30 inch monitor question?

I'm considering getting a 30 inch monitor so I could use it as a monitor as well as use it for my xbox 360 gaming. I'm kind of a noob on this subject though so I do not know what I would require. I was wondering, for the monitor to work effectively with my computer I would just need a really good graphics card like the 8800 gt correct? Thanks for the help.
